Pet adoption is a subjective process of matching people and pets with regard to personality and lifestyle. Animals in need of veterinary treatments to regain health or eliminate pain are not adoptable and are killed by many other animal shelters. At Baywater, these animals are evaluated by veterinarians and, if possible, they undergo needed treatments to restore them to health. Dramatic results are most often achieved and the animals become adoptable.
Because Baywater Animal Rescue is a no-kill shelter, medical expenses are a significant part of our operating expenses (17%). We treat illnesses and injuries, and rehabilitate animals that come to us in order to prepare them for adoption to good homes. All animals are assessed for illness and vaccinations, and receive all needed medications upon entering the facility. Heartworm medication is also administered at prescribed intervals while animals are with us. Veterinary care, including surgery, is provided as needed and all animals are spayed/neutered prior to being put up for adoption.
